Dashboard New Found Glory Split

So, it might seem kind of high school of me to be so excited about, but Dashboard Confessional and New Found Glory are doing a 7'' split together. This might come out of left field and steal album of the year depending on what both groups do with each others songs.
Hopefully Chris has enough good sense to simplify the NFG songs to just accoustic; since I'm not sure that slower more thoughtful versions of NFG songs will play out that well.

New Say Anything Video

Say Anything - Hate Everyone

Here is the just released music video for the first single of Say Anything's upcoming S/T album. Somehow I've managed to avoid hearing the song until just now; which is completely unfortunate considering how awesome it is. It reminds me of "Somebody Hates Me" by Reel Big Fish for a number of reasons (fun, upbeat song, about hating people).

This makes me really excited for the rest of the album, and excited to hear how instead of stretching good ideas to fit on two discs, they might have combined good ideas to fit them on one disc.

I think that the way NME describes them is pretty spot on ("The sound of someone crashing an oil tanker through Sigur Ros' ice float"). But because I'm not going to let myself get beaten by NME, I'll say that if The Mars Volta were from the UK and replaced their rambunctios, esoteric sound with a much more spirited, epic and as cheesy as it might sound majestic one, you would find And So I Watch You From Afar.

Fuck Your Friends...Listen To New Found Glory

I remember getting off work when I was 16 and working at a car wash during the summer. I would jump into my Buick LeSabre (don't laugh, that car kicked ass), roll all the windows down and blast "My Friends Over You" all the way home. There's no one to say it without sounding cheesy, so insert cliche line about youthful freedom here:
In all honesty, it's not how I feel about New Found Glory that matters, it's how you should feel about New Found Glory that matters. I remember trying to avoid the pop-punk stigma in high school, being ashamed that I didn't like The Vandals and Dead Kennedy's as much as I "should" have; but we're grown now right? That's what I thought. And it's with this newly realized mature mindset that I say...It's okay to like pop punk.
The second most important thing I'll write in this post (never mind the first) is that New Found Glory can only be categorized as pop punk as much as any other genre creating, shaping, bending and re-igniting band can be still stuck with the label that they were originally branded with. I'm holding full on to the belief that Not Without A Fight will make you re-imagine what you though you knew about the "new" New Found Glory. Prepare to eat crow.

There's nothing that I can say about this song that it can't say for itself. Let New Found Glory into your life...or don't come back to my blog...seriously...it's like that.

Albums of the Year

So, I know I gushed below about albums of the year below, but in case you're not in the know, A Day To Remember's new album has leaked.   As I've said before, I'm not encouraging anyone to download albums illegally, but, muthafuckgoddamn; I'm impressed by this album so far.   If you havn't heard the newly released track featuring Vincent Barret of The Acacia Strain, then head over to ADTR's myspace page and check it out.

Album of the Year?

Its very possible that with the release of Wrath the new Every Time I Die album and this album, we could be looking at three of the best albums of the decade.

And as much I love ETID and LOG, Two Tongues might take album of the year.

Just Like The Good Ole' Days

The first track from New Found Glory's upcoming album Not Without A Fight can now be seen below.  



This song could be "My Friends Over You part 2" for a number of reasons, but mainly because its totally awesome. I was right in my hope that this album would be more like the music that got me to love music like I do. I can already imagine blasting this cd with my windows down on the first warm spring day.

Every Time I Die Sign To Epitaph, Epitaph Headquarters Developes Own Gravitational Pull

I don't know how I missed this and I'm not going to spend time lamenting on how pissed I am that I missed it, but Every Time I Die has signed to Epitaph, and for my money Epitaph has one of the Gnarliest rosters in music right now, period.  Check it out.

So many of the bands that are playing today are playing music because of the bands on Epitaphs roster.  The music scene would be painfully bleak/shitty if it weren't for these bands.  With the exception of a small few, you can't find a band or even mediocore band on this label.  Check them all out, they're all worth your time.
